- Coached the Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets and Washington Bullets/Wizards
- First head coach and general manager in Bobcats history

- 33rd all-time among head coaches
- Ten-year player
- Head coach at the University of San Diego
- Played for the Toreros 1964–1966 was team captain and MVP his senior season
- Member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc.
In 2008, Bickerstaff was hired along with long time NBA assistant Bob Ociepka to be an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls. 
On July 27, 2010, Bickerstaff was hired as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.
