Do you telephone people less than you use to?

temp

Michael posted this question in Facebook, as you can see.
My response was as follows:

The HR guy,  where I used to work, talking about email, ten+ years ago, was telling me that he thought informal communication was suffering badly.
In that respect email has transitioned into Social Media and has improved again.
I have great friends that I have never met!

I think the phone as a verbal device, is now the casualty.
The phone is now the 'Smart'phone which is predominantly a non verbal device but it is dominating communication.
It will be interesting to see how that will swing back.

'Swings and Roundabouts'

That’s how it occurs to me.
What do you think?

A social aptitude not to weight for the juice of life

I was aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight about 2 years ago and I saw the Jawbone UP in the in-flight brochure.

“£120! That's a lot of money for a bangle!” , I thought

What an UP was, simply didn’t register in my mind.

Sick Athleticism by a Basket Case

I was diagnosed as an athlete 20 years ago, which totally surprised me! However, I did take great pleasure in producing a print-out from St Thomas’ Hospital to show my Basketball teammates, who were half my age.
Every time they made a wise crack about my age, out would come the report and I would openly gloat “cos I’m an athlete, you know” .

The Weight of Cholesterol

I retired from my active Basketball participation in 1998 and if I was honest, I have proceeded  to get sick ever since.
20 years ago I was diagnosed with Hypercholesterolemia, which was why I attending St Thomas’ Hospital.

By July 1st, this year, my weight had climbed in excess of 252lbs but my cholesterol level remained static at around 11.

Statins

Some time back I decided to quit the Statins and all the other drugs that had been prescribed to fix my Cholesterol and I am glad I did!

Last year the film ‘Statin Nation’ was released, which refutes that Cholesterol is the killer that it is reported to be and that “People with high cholesterol tend to live longer” . Statin NationThe purpose of Cholesterol it seems is to repair damage to arteries, Cholesterol is not the problem, it is a symptom of something else and the wrong thing is being treated.

Not even being aware of that, for me it was a life choice:
“Is my life going to be about taking drugs?”.
It was a Brain Space thing.
I consider my present time and where I put my thoughts as precious, even more than my own longevity.
Worrying about taking prescribed medications wasn’t doing it for me.

As my weight grew so did my blood pressure. It was high!

Walking up slopes for any amount of time produced tightness in my chest, I wasAngela aware of pains in my shoulders, tingling hands and even my teeth experienced strange sensations!

Last year my friend , Jason Jackman, referred to me to Superwellness  Nutritionist Coach, Angela Steel and my education began. Sweet!

SUGAR!

Its everywhere! from bread to Coca Cola, from ice-cream to ketchup, from hot-dog to cakes, jams, sweets, sausages, yogurts ... you name it!
In virtually everything I ate.

Great, as an athlete, I would burn it but as a Laptop Jockey ………. No

Research is reporting that the excess sugars in our diet are responsible for a variety of ailments, such as colds, flu, food allergies, high cholesterol, candida, cancer, diabetes, fatty degeneration, degenerative diseases, depression, dizziness, crying spells, aggression, insomnia, weakness, skin problems, heart and circulatory diseases...

2013-04-20 12.05.48My eating habits changed and I discovered just how enjoyable AND SATISFYING some foods really are, yet alone how they repair my body!
Organic oats for breakfast with Strawberries and Blueberries and half a banana – even though the banana has natural sugar, it still has sugar!

Snacks of Almonds or Munchy Seeds – new sensations, new tastes – its all new experience and its fun!

This year, I re-mortgaged my house and a medical report was required by the insurance company. Blood tests were taken and submitted to my Doctor and off I went to see him.
My visits to the doctor occur about every 10 years.

He said “your Cholesterol level is 11”, I said “that’s good for me”.
We discussed how to lower it and given my decision not to take drugs, I asked what the alternatives were, expecting him to talk to me about food or alternative therapies.  Instead I was offered alterative drugs.

Strangely enough, the high blood pressure had disappeared and 2 weeks later, just by being aware, my cholesterol was down to 9.6 but I am a hypnotherapist

UP

Some weeks later, I met a client in Westfield Mall, in London’s East End, next to the Olympic Park. In the Apple Store I came across the Jawbone Up again – “why would the Apple Store stock a bangle?”

upThe UP wristband tracks the amount of steps that I take and sleep states, deep and shallow. I then plug it into my Android phone and it uploads its data to the UP app.

I use IFTTT.com to push other data to the UP from many sources:
YouTube, Foursquare, my Wordpress Blog, Flickr, the weather at the beginning of the day and at 3pm and scrobbles from Last.FM
It is like a life journal.

I also push data from the UP app to Facebook, Google Docs and Google Calendar.

But Weight!

withings

I then discovered the Withings Smart Body Analyser (scales) which feeds my weight, Body fat measurement, CO2 readings from where I sleep and my heart rate thru WiFi to its app and from there to most of the other Life-style apps that I now use.ifttt

If any of the apps don't redistribute data to other apps, then usually IFTTT.com can.

The TEMPRunkeeper app measures my steps, tracks me by GPS and tells me (in a female voice) how I am progressing as I walk. She tells me about my pace and speed. Runkeeper is another app installed on my smartphone too.

All that remained was to monitor my heart rate on a continuous basis and upload that data to my phone and there I hit a problem!

According to Polar, in the UK, Polar Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitors don’t work with my Samsung S3! In point of fact nothing seemed to work the way I wanted but if I owned an iPhone, I would have been spoilt for choice.
I think that is pretty backward!

tempEventually, I bought a Garmin Forerunner 110. Although this doesn't transfer data by Bluetooth or WiFi, it connects via a USB directly to my laptop and using Runkeeper, com, I can upload a map of where I walk, the elevation, my pace etc. etc., as well as to Garmin Connect  which records the same data and keeps a record of my activity on its own calendar.
Garmin also has an app for my phone.

The calendar can be added to my Google Calendar but so far I haven’t been able to make that work,

Next thing up was the  Joe Cross documentary on Channel 5, here in the UK:

'Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead' ( click here to see the  Official Trailer from Team Reboot Sageon Vimeo )

So I bought the same Juicer, as he uses in the programme.
But

then I needed to measure the acid in my blood and that where it becomes lo-tech.
I ordered Simplex Health pH Test Strips from Amazon and add the results onto a Google spread-sheet

The great thing is that I dropped 10lbs in a week.
I feel so great and its getting better each day!
And everything is broadcastable through Facebook and Twitter and on Runkeeper’s own  Social stream – that’s quite an incentive!

Becoming accountable to my network and I even have one of my clients monitor me, which she does admirably!

So, the Universe conspired to get me well.
I got aware and I have had a fun time playing with gadgets and apps and being a ‘Social Tart’, enjoying reporting the progress in SoMe and all this while I heal …. Fabulous!

Become aware. Take responsibility for your own health and your diet. Don’t delegate and
Be well!

A Schizophrenic Way of Life?

In reaction to a Facebook posting, I was asked my view on “How one company is trying to buy up Mother Earth”. The link doesn’t appear to contain the same words - Go Figure
temp

OK, I am a big picture guy.

We are amidst a social revolution, clearly!
People are using Social Media and the Internet to affect change like never before and the results are being seen by the amount of people on the streets protesting throughout the world.

My friend said to me the other day that the Brits would be on the streets if it were not for Beer and Football and amusing as it was, I can see his reasoning and it’s a true generalisation.

‘Thems that have’ appear to be in a last ditch attempt to maintain control and the reactions are showing up all over the internet. Perceived injustices are showing up like never before! The velocity of communication has never been at the speed of light before available to so many people.

Perception is on high alert and emotional reaction the same whereas time taken to research is probably not being undertaken at a personal level, rather digital ‘hear-say’ is!
Isn’t that the same velocity working against itself?

Avaaz is part of the reaction of ordinary folk to maintain freedom (freedom is an illusion and actually always has been an illusion).
Brits have freedom to a point and believe that they are free because they are comfortable with their lot, when actually most are held in place by fears of losing something because they noticed they have already started losing stuff.
But the Brits probably have the highest level of freedom available in the world. Hence our massive immigration population. People like the freedoms we have.

My personal belief:
Protestation doesn’t work as much as we think it does, community and negotiated agreements always delivers but without the protestation then issues are veiled from us.

There is a place and a time (reality) for all behaviour but it needs to be powerful not forceful.

Osho said:

osho910[1]"Everybody wants freedom as far as talking is concerned, but nobody really is free and nobody really wants to be free, because freedom brings responsibility. It does not come alone. And to be dependent is simple: the responsibility is not on you, the responsibility is on the person you are dependent on.

So people have made a schizophrenic way of life. They talk about truth, they talk about freedom, and they live in lies, they live in slaveries – slaveries of many kinds, because each slavery frees you from some responsibility. A man who really wants to be free has to accept immense responsibilities. He cannot dump his responsibilities on anybody else. Whatever he does, whatever he is, he is responsible."

Humans have such a bad track record of self-abuse, like no other animal on this planet and the constant need to separate and use is bazaar. The concept of retribution is also bazaar.
Who are we fearful of? who are we controlling? who are we stealing from?,  who are we fighting? Who are we punishing? … Ourselves – That’s bazaar!

It is community and agreement (enrolment via conversation) that will change things, always has, always will and that’s the power of humanity.
Not forceful action or forceful opinion, rather great questions.

Social Media is a conversation. It needs to generate creativity and enrolment.

Perhaps I am Socratic but I believe Questions have more power than answers because it is creativity that drives humanity not fixing things – that is containment. It is not freedom.

BE_say-do_HAVE

Behave yourselves
(Its all a question of imagination)

iStock_000009165312_ExtraSmallBehave yourselves and do what you are told!
As a child you may had heard that at school or home or both.

I am finding more and more that I am using the ‘BeSayDoHave’ model on clients, and friends, who are stopped or confused about where they are in their lives.
That seems to be the common theme in life right now OR it just occurs to me that way.

There is a certain directionless in people’s lives.
I think because they are buying into the recession thing and the pointlessness they believe as a result.

Actually, never before have we had so much opportunity to imagine and create!

But we are certainly in transition.
Social Media is causing and assisting that big time.
We are amidst a Social Revolution which is bringing all sorts of authority under scrutiny and conspirisists are having an open run at most every known and unknown event of the past zillion years.

Perhaps it is that governments and corporations are disempowered as a result and the feeling of lost-ness and leaderless-ness is showing up

The ‘Be Say Do Have’ Model

The model follows the state of unconscious into unconsciousness and back out again.

BEing requires no consciousness – one just is just feeling or just being in a state for no reason.
When we get to SAY something about that we become conscious of our state which will probably cause us to
DO something (consciously or unconsciously)
thus causing us to HAVE something. (again consciously or unconsciously).

States of Concern

Most states of concern are so practiced (repeated time and time again) they run automatically and become unconsciously executed.

But let’s look more closely at the model:

As a child we were always imagining BEing something and telling (SAYing) others about  it and then DOing things and HAVing experiences before moving on to the next BeSayDoHave cycle = Playing.

If we didn't HAVE the result we imagined we probably threw a tantrum or got upset until it was forgotten and then we started the whole BeSayDoHave cycle off again.

Going then into the next stage of our development (??) of entering education, we also enter an environment where the chances are that we need to be controlled.
What we BE and SAY become casualties because there is a need for us to DO and HAVE things so that we comply with the rules.

You can’t have 30 Kids BEing and SAYing things all at one time. Chaos will follow and control will be lost.

In point of fact Self Control was being installed in us and not all of us can do that.

The Short Circuit and Getting Stuck

What I come across are people who have gone through the system and arrived in a future where unconsciously they are under great (self-)pressure to DO something to change how they are (BE) feeling and the short cycle of DoHave is constantly being run without achieving the desired result.

They believe that to HAVE change that they need to DO and haven’t yet found out what it is. They need to do something or are having trouble deciding something.
They have forgotten to BE and SAY what it is that has come to them unconsciously.

In the DoHave cycle there is very little room for unconscious imagination and people constantly come up short.

Choice, Not Decisions

Adding BeSay back into the equation increases scope and depth and most importantly choice!
Things become unstuck
and the pressing need for decision goes away.

GET OUT THERE AND BE ANYTHING YOU IMAGINATION REQUIRES and
if it doesn't work out throw a tantrum in your head and start a new cycle.

Web Famousness

BBC news posted 2 articles this week
BBC-News'Britannica ends its print edition'
– “After 244 years the Encyclopaedia Britannica will no longer be produced in print, new editions will appear only online”
and
'No toilet in half of Indian homes'
– “Nearly half of India’s 1.2 billion people have no toilet at home – fewer than have mobile phones – according to the latest census data”

and there, in a nutshell is the impact of modern communication and the priorities people attach to it.

A friend on Facebook, responding to “No toilet in half of Indian homes” responded with “Bonkers!” She has a point! That is bonkers!

Recently asked the question what is Klout.com about, it occurred to me that it is about Web Famousness.

Social Capital sites like http://Klout.com and http://Peerindex.Net measure our activity on the larger Social Media sites.  A sort of Who likes Who likes What expressed in numbers.

It occurs to me: if you have high scores then more people know about you and the more “Web Famous” you can be. The higher your ranking or score the more people want to follow you and the more people want to follow you and talk with you , the higher your score and the more famous you get.

So I guess, there is a dilemma:
It is great that we can now freely communicate, like never before, but there is a cost – institutions die and humans prioritise temporary conversation above the need to live healthy lives.

Is this  “Social Expenditure” being spent to achieve “Social Capital” (“Web Famousness”)?

The “Social Balance” is that we can use Social Media as a means to highlight and keep highlighting where Human thinking is out of balance and as for the old institution that ‘Everybody will be famous for 15 minutes’ – that’s blown!

Stay Social. BE Famously Healthy

Read all full about it

Sunday Morning and I am scratching around trying to find GOOD news.  Personally, I have no wish to receive bad news!

Obviously, I will have to receive bad news but the news media, be it paper or electronic,  Extra Extra GOD NEWS iStock_000017913369XSmallseems to be full of BAD news and it makes me wonder why?

As a coach/trainer/mentor/hypnotist, I am fully aware of the power of stories.  In point of fact the majority of my work is expressed in stories so that my clients can take from it what they need.

So Stories=YES.  BAD stories =NO

It is simple: good stories create good energy and bad stories create bad energy.

It is usually, because someone has repeatedly told themself a BAD story that they ask me to do  the work that I do.Extra Extra GOD NEWS iStock_000017913369XSmall

I have heard it argued that we get the press we deserve. Clearly newspapers wouldn’t sell if the stories in them did not suit their readers. I don’t even believe that the news should be all GOOD either BUT I do believe that there should be a balance of Good and Bad.  What editors choose to put in their papers should be balanced equally between Good and Bad.

The GOOD news is out there and I get to share what I can on Social networking sites.

So, help me out here Editors. I want the world full of good energy!

Stor: ies / eys / ed ties

It's all a story!
Sometimes words just show up and I find myself playing with them.
I try to break them, reconstruct them, see what else I can do with them, look for the ambiguity in them ………… and always have fun with them …. to see where my logic takes me.

As a child, I was fortunate enough to have had parents that told me stories at bedtime and  on occasions during the day, stimulating my imagination and creating my reality. Kids just play and what they do is live out what adults would call Unreal situations in a very real way.

I decided about 11 years ago that Santa Claus is real and I am looking forward to him visiting my house again this year – this may be a problem since I haven’t been good this year but when I’m bad, I am probably at my best!  ;-D
and
I don’t think it helped, when I said a few years back: “I don’t care who you are! You are not parking that thing here!”
So what about stories?
STORIES ARE EVERYWHERE
ALL THE TIME

Newspapers carry stories. TV News present stories. Theatres play stories. The film industry makes millions from creating and selling stories. Authors.. painters …artists… gift their stories to the world.
When we communicate with each other we tell a story as soon as we can get it into the conversation, to  illustrate what we are saying. Yeah Right! We probably just can’t help ourselves; we are compelled to do it.
Social media is full of stories and most technology is there to support the creation and telling of stories.

So, what's the story?
My Life Is A Story (and so is yours)
a simple story developed by stacking stories on top of stories into storeys and the dangerous thing is when the simple story becomes a stored tie. We can get tied into a story that we constructed and then fix our reality to it, losing the flexibility of the imaginative child, that we always were and will probably always be.

Personally, I believe we are designed to forget contrary to the view of a good friend of mine, who believes we are designed to remember.Young couple sitting on sofa and dreaming That’s one entity with 2 perspectives or at least that’s my story.

The great thing about stories is that they are all made up and if your life is a story and you made it up, then you can make up what you like from NOW on.  We all do it anyway.

Take, as an example 2 old boys in the pub (actually my mate Rob and I. We are both young sexagenarians and we have known each other for 50 years) recalling the time that we went to The Alexandra Palace ‘Love In’ :
Do you remember going the the Ally Pally ‘Love-in’ in  Pat’s Austin Westminster?
We didn't, we took the train!
We can’t of done! We went to Waterloo Station first and drove up to Wood Green.
That wasn't Waterloo! That was Charing Cross and we caught the tube!
Same event, 2 different stories.
The point being,  because the detail gets forgotten, the story won’t run and each of us has plugged the gaps with our own detail so the story can run – we have Confabulated

According to Miriam Webster Free Dictionary:
“Fabricate imaginary experiences as compensation for loss of memory”

So, here's the deal:
Since all (life) stories are based on PAST events, we have to recall them and actually recreate them NOW. The detail, or lack of it, is stored in different areas of our brain and we have to pull it all together to be able to present it as fact …… which it isn’t,  since we will probably have confabulated so that the construction can be complete.

Its not what happened. It is the story of what happened - a sensual representation of events. We would have deleted, distorted and generalised our experience.

If I were to tell you my life story in full detail, it would take more than 61 years to tell. Before  I would have finished I would have died and you would be bored witless!!
So, as a matter of course, I have to delete, distort and generalise.

You can hold great store by that

Loopy Tweeting Ambiguity

The problem with Tweeting is the amount of characters available to you
at 140 it is even less than a SMS (mobile phone text message)!

So, how then, can one use Tweets to be able to influence somebody?

There has been a long debate as to whether Hypnosis exists or if it is all just suggestion.

CaptureDerren Brown talks about this in his book ‘Tricks of the Mind’ although there is recent evidence which shows the existence of Hypnosis as a specific state in the brain.

In hypnosis one seeks to influence.

Using the style of Milton Erickson one can be Artfully Vague so that the subject fills in the elements as the hypnotist suggests
for example … “Now, I don’t know if you are thinking of the sky or even if there are clouds or even if the sun is high in the sky or how bright it may be….”

The Hypnotist does not actually know what the subject is thinking about.

Nevertheless, the hypnotist has suggested that the subject think of a bright sunny day. He cant make the subject think of those things but there is a good chance that the subject will.
The fact the Hypnotist goes on to describe what may be in the sky presupposes that there is a sky and the subject is thinking about it.

There are all manner of techniques to suggest tings to a subject, you only have to look a TV ads to get that!

Look at the adverts for Smokers Patches or gum where words like “… the next time you…” are used.  No presupposition or suggestion there then!

One can Analogue Mark out certain words or phrases by pausing slightly before uttering them – the subject’s unconscious mind will pick up the difference whilst their rational mind will push on making sense of the words.

Lowering the tone of voice as words are spoken can command the subject to follow
for example “As you sit there you can |relax now |…. ”
Again the unconscious picks up the commands whilst the conscious continues to make sense of the words.

It is ambiguous. One meaning is processed one way by the conscious and another meaning processed by the unconscious.

There are many techniques, these are just some.

Oh yes … I digressed!

So, how then, can one use Tweets to be able to influence somebody?

Or did I?

I opened a loop, a while ago to preoccupy  your conscious mind  and now I have just closed it.
If I wanted to, I could nest loops inside of loops. All designed to preoccupy the conscious mind, whilst I make suggestions to the unconscious mind. Actually, I stacked 2 loops together – note how Ambiguity, appearing in the blog post title was incomplete until I described how the words  |relax now | were being used.

Ever had a friend who said “We must go for a drink and catch up….” ?
They never book a time. Notice how that hangs around because it is incomplete. It is an open loop.

Now, here’s the problem.

How can you embed suggestions successfully into a 140 character tweet?

The Meaning of Life is NOT

It was my pleasure to be ChatviewedTM by The English Sisters on 14th November.

They are very skilled Hypnotists, with their very own and unique Hypnorambling style so I guess it was inevitable that we would end up with a Trance Out . After all, Hypnotists do love to practice!

I’d like to say that I won, but I can’t remember  Confused smile

Just Social Know

Just so you know (Just Social Know) - I love ambiguity!

It allows me to do my job and talk in the unconscious mind of my client  while their conscious mind works out which meaning to use. I can do that because I am an Expert! As it happens, a Master Neuro Linguistic Practitioner, fast becoming a Social Media Coach, amongst other things

Experts

Social Media usage grows and with it, experts arise. So what is an “Expert”?

An expert is a person or entity that is recommended by a third party to you and then you either accept the third party’s judgement and agree that the person called the “Expert” is an expert or not.

Whether they have the knowledge to back up their expertise is not part of the the initial equation. That is second tranche
When you decide they are an expert, you then open up your listening and may be your mind, to their output.

I read a lot from and get advise from lots of  Social Media experts and I am already seeing contradiction. It is inevitable and happens in every field of expertise. I wouldn’t trust any NLP Practitioner that didn’t question me!

What follows contradiction is confusion. However, installing confusion is a very useful state if you wish to influence someone. I use confusion when dealing with clients. Again, it preoccupies their conscious mind while I work on their unconscious state.

What is Social Media?

To my  mind, Social Media is whatever you agree it to be with your network. Agreement is the key and your network is who you do it with - not the expert. You, with them, are the expert on your sociability!

Lack of Agreement = Assumption

I like  Landmark Education’s thinking! I read it as Agreement first!
Even if there is no agreement, as they say “Having agreement in the face of no agreement”.  Why do I mention this? Because Lack of Agreement = Assumption

If there is lack of agreement then assumption is all that's left and as they say
“Assumption makes an ass out of you and me!”

Assumption will eventually lead to breakdown and Breakdown will lead to Breakthrough and the cycle starts again, usually leaving casualties, .i.e. people left behind or jobless and much more severe states like poverty and starvation! *

* see below for how to be supportive

So, in the conflicting views that I get about Social Media and what it is supposed to be, I have to agree my values with my fellow posters or Tweeps.

Here, I go along with Thomas Power of Ecademy and Mick Say of  Online Marketing Academy, amongst others. You have to

be Open, Random and Supportive

Open, Random and Supportive versus Closed Selective and Controlling

Daniel Priestley - Author, entrepreneur and international speakerI recently heard Daniel Priestly speak about Social Media.
Social Media is a phenomena – it hasn’t happened before, we are in Social Revolution.

When  Wikileaks broke  the reaction of the UK Prime Minister, amongst others, was to close down his Twitter account (Closed Selective and Controlling) and not to to communicate in that way. He didn’t capitalise on the event, he shut down.

I think I understand why but what was the message? (In the face of no agreement, only assumption is left.)

If I choose, I can assume that I am not to be trusted with what he knows. That it is not for my ears and I am just not that important enough – I can make up almost any negative reason I like.
The point is there is no agreement so assumption is the only alternative.

I agree with Daniel Priestley’s view  that we are migrating from The Industrial Revolution to The Social Revolution.

Industrial to Social Revolution

The Industrial Revolution has led to Business needing controls, selecting what it outputs to protect its image or brand, having controls in place to keep its design intact, managed by systems!

At some point Customer Processing transformed into the misnomer Customer Service – Tweeps and Peeps our needs are being processed through systems not relationships. Businesses are having closed relationships with us.

Socially, never before has the individual had so much clout to change business, society, politics - you name it - so quickly!
Socially, never before has an individual had the clout to promote their cause, beliefs, values -  you name it -  so quickly!

To get an idea of the velocity, look at David McCandless’s work  - http://aypee.wordpress.com/2010/09/23/the-beauty-of-data-visualization/
He says, “Let the dataset change the Mind Set” and refers to the broadband of our senses, where Visual and Kinaesthetic input lead the charge.
Social media uses our senses and Visual and Kinaesthetic are high impact!

We are amidst a social revolution which some businesses have capitalised and most politicians have not.
Now I believe there is a danger that business will try to own Social Media and determine what it is and so will politics (Control)

The recent UK Riots has seen Politics try to restrict Social MediaGood luck with that, by the way – as if Social Media is to blame for the rioting (Closed Selective and Controlling).
The rioters that used Social Media to communicate their sad operations to others were using tools of communication – you can’t blame a hammer for the damage it may cause. It is the person that is holding the hammer that inflicts the damage and they are inflicting it with no agreement.

No Agreement = No Clout = Assumption = Breakdown = Influence = Clout = Revolution

With the velocity that Social Media has, there is very little point in being Closed Selective and Controlling, any more. It won’t work!

So the information super highway has evolved into the Social Super Highway and influence is the key to success. Influence can only happen through Relationships (Kinaesthetic) and Relationships function inside of community (Social Networks).

The relationships require sensual input. Taking Sensual bandwidths as the priorities for influencing me with your Social output, you need to stimulate me with :

  1. Visual input
  2. Kinaesthetic input
  3. Auditory input
  4. Gustatory Olfactory

See http://aypee.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/thats-a-lie/

It is pointless to add  control to the process!

No Agreement = No Clout = Assumption = Breakdown = Influence = Clout
= Revolution  = <<Open, Random Supportive>>

+ <<Closed Selective and Controlling>>

= No Agreement = No Clout = Assumption = Breakdown = Influence = Clout = Revolution = <Open, Random Supportive>> again

Just So You Know @AyPee says Social Media

  • is whatever you agree  with your network
  • needs to be Open, Random and Supportive
  • is about relationships then influence

Riotous Fun

Topical, given the UK Rioting that has occurred

Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.
Proverbs 22:24-25

Influence is not delivered to the conscious mind; logic may be, but influence is processed at the unconscious level and moves into conscious thinking where reason and logic become applied – and Justification.
At whatever level the rioters were influenced

Interesting then that the use of Social Media comes into the frame, seen as inciting riotous action because Social Media at every level will influence somebody.
There are sites like
http://klout.com and http://peerindex.net that measure exactly that

Think on Social Media wrights and influence well

Call to Actively Relate?

I don’t know how you view Social Media.

for you: is it a Call to Action or a Call to relate?

In many respects Social Media and Internet Marketing have become one. I suppose that there is a concept that we use Social Media to market ourselves and generally speaking, overlooking that it is a place where we can get into new relationships to others.

It is perceived as being different to meeting people  face to face.

As an example, lets look at the normal  kitchen at parties scenario:

CaptureAt a party, you enter the kitchen to find your friend talking to someone you don’t know. Usually, your friend will introduce this unknown person to you and you get into conversation. Introductions occur and conversation grows

If your friend was having a conversation with that person, they may engage you  in the conversation or will postpone their conversation until later or maybe cancel that conversation altogether

Now lets take the usual Facebook conversation scenario:
AyPee posts something on to his personal Facebook  page.
Joe Bloggs responds and a conversations starts
John Smith reads AyPee’s post and he responds also.

At this point there are two separate conversations

If it were the Party Scenario an introduction would have been made and a three way conversation started but this is Facebook and what happens generally is that the 2 conversations remain separate.

If the conversations join together, the parties then usually remain in their separate relationships no introduction is made from the host or from either party.

Now, that is a generalisation and is not always true but by and large, it is.

Conversations are a call to relate and an opportunity to grow our community. Opportunities are gifts and most gifts come from related people

Teams can only function in Community
